“The death of a mother is the first sorrow wept without her”.
Taken too soon in a rapidly progressing battle with lung cancer it is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Sandra Elizabeth Mitchell. A loving mother and grandmother, Sandy passed away peacefully at the age of 65 in Surrey Memorial Hospital on January 6, 2021.
She was born in North Vancouver on November 4, 1955 to Audrey and Robert Christie. Her memory will be cherished by her children: Daniel, Jennifer and Brandon; her grandson Rowan; her sister Moire and their families.
Sandy was creative and resourceful, with an endless love for children, animals and plants. As a single mother she loved her children tirelessly and despite the challenges of life, managed to provide a nurturing home: not only for them, but for anyone else in need. As the proprietor of her own cleaning business early in life, the house was always spick and span and filled with happy flora, beautiful pieces of beaded jewelry and knitted items, and the kind of custom Halloween costumes most kids can only dream of. After a move to Nanaimo in 1990 she ran an in-home family daycare for a few years, then completed a diploma of horticulture while working part-time and raising her children. The year 2000 saw her move back to the mainland, for work in the Fraser Valley as a horticulturist and eventually a traffic control person.
Sister, Mom, Mama, Nana, you will be missed.
