RONALD CARL GRUBER

May 26 1941- December 11, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ronald Carl Gruber on December 11, 2014 following a devastating stroke. Ron was comforted to have his loving wife and best friend Kerry-Reay and his two sons, Kris and Wes, by his side. Also missing him is his labrador Kayla, his relatives, neighbours and many friends. Born and raised in Point Grey, Ron grew into a talented carver, whose work reflected his keen eye and love of nature. He had a passion for British Columbia's great outdoors and was an expert on BC coastal birds whose likeness he could represent with vivid accuracy in pieces of wood he collected only a stones throw from his home. His work is now in private collections all over the world. Ron was also one of the stream keepers of Spanish Banks Creek, a rehabilitated stream most Vancouverites regularly cross over on their beloved Spanish Banks walks. In recent years, his concern for a declining salmon population, and stewardship of this salmon spawning stream led it to be nicknamed "Ron's Stream". His concern for nature and the next generation led Ron to donate countless hours teaching thousands of school children from all over Vancouver about the salmon spawning process. But most of all, Ron was a loving father, a gardener, coach, fisherman, and steadfast husband whose love and care for his family and the natural world around him will be sadly missed by all.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday February 8th 2015 from 1-4pm at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, 3811 Point Grey Road, Vancouver. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, www.heartandstroke.bc.ca.
