Our beloved Richard James Davidson passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on July 30th, 2014 following a brief and unexpected battle with cancer. He is predeceased by his Father James, survived by his life partner Debbie, his Mother Vera, his siblings John (Eileen), Allan (Leah), Wendy (Daniel) and Victoria (Mike), as well as many dear relatives and friends. He was born December 2nd, 1946, in Vancouver and from the age of 10, raised on Dunbar Street in Kitsilano. Richard, Mum's “Best Boy”, and his brothers and sisters spent magic years together as children. The magic did not diminish into adulthood.
Richard was a gifted artist, musician, and story-teller, able to draw us all into the world of his vivid imagination. He will always be remembered for his love of art and music and, his quick humour – he made us laugh. He had a natural kindness and empathy towards people and animals. His life was transformed 12 years ago by Debbie, the love of his life, who led him into an exciting life of travel and personal discovery – Portland, Oregon, Hawaii, Mexico, Central America, Italy, the Grouse Grind (several times per week), culinary arts, and, most importantly, true love. Our special gratitude goes to the nursing staff of the VGH acute care unit, particularly to Jaz and David whose care went above and beyond. Richard will be missed terribly, but remembered with smiles and laughter, as he would want. A private Celebration of Life is being planned for the fall.
