Patricia Ruth Raziel

On September 28, 2021, Patricia Ruth Raziel passed away in the most natural way at the age of 95.

Ruth was born March 18, 1926 in London and the child of Laura Lederman (formerly McLellan) and Frederick Nathaniel Lederman. She attended the London School of Economics, a prestigious school in London, where she completed her studies in journalism. Ruth loved to travel to Paris where she learned to speak French more fluently. Married with Joseph Raziel in July 1952, Daniel Raziel was born in 1962. Ruth lived in many different cities before choosing Vancouver as home.

Very involved with the Sufi Order International, Ruth followed the teachings of Hazrat Inayat Khan, his son Pir Vilayat, and his grandson Pir Zia, who is the current spiritual leader of the Order. Passionate about poetry, music and dance, Ruth organized many wonderful evenings, opening every one’s heart and soul with the poetry of Rumi and Hafiz, two of the greatest Sufi poets.

Thirty years ago, Ruth met Phil L’Hirondelle, leader at that time of a weekly Healing Circle on Granville Island; together, they attended many First Nations Ceremonies led by Phil Mechuskosis L’Hirondelle.

Ruth met her friend, John Linnel, in 2013 and was along his side during his passing in June 2019.

Ruth is survived by her beloved son Daniel, his wife Ann, their daughter Ella, Ruth’s adopted son, Phil, Ruth’s adopted daughters, Teya and Monique, and a large community of friends and relatives.

Ruth’s Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 24th, at 1pm at the VanDusen Botantical Gardens. Please contact the family to RSVP your attendance
