Mary Shelley Obituary

SHELLEY, MARY ANN April 24, 1934 – November 24, 2014 MRS. MARY ANN SHELLEY (nee McCamey) of Burnaby, beloved wife of Mr. Melvin J. Shelley, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014 at the age of 80 years, following a lengthy battle with vascular dementia. Mary Ann met Mel at UBC, where she received a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Teaching), with distinction. They were married while still students, forging a bond that would continue to grow over 60 beautiful years. Along with her loving husband, Mary Ann is survived by three sons: Leigh (Debra), Scott (Jodi) and Todd Shelley; two grandchildren, Nolan and Trenton Shelley; and an aunt, Gwynneth Foulds. Mary Ann was predeceased by a baby daughter, Maurya Jeannette Shelley (1967 – 1970). Mary Ann will be remembered as a compassionate and giving person who cared and shared with others. She had a strong faith that was practiced daily, which was unwaveringly supported by her ethics and her commitment to the family – a source of great pride for her. A music lover, an avid reader and a people person, who by nature was reserved and respectful of the needs of others, she could always be relied upon to be soft, comforting and consoling. She was a strong partner and faithful wife, and a loving, supportive and attentive mother. She could do anything to which she set her mind, and she chose to care for her family first and foremost – a tremendous role she sustained with dignity and fervor. A Graveside Service for Mary Ann, and a final committal service for daughter Maurya (1967 – 1970) will be held at 12:30pm on Friday, December 12th, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30pm, on Friday, December 12th, at Shadbolt Centre For The Arts, 6450 Deer Lake Avenue, Burnaby, BC. No flowers by request. Donations in Mary Ann’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of B. C., #300 – 828 W. 8TH Ave., Vancouver, B.C., V5Z 1E2, for research on all forms of dementia. “YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE, MY ONLY SUNSHINE.”
