Madeleine Miklos

Madeleine Miklos of Vancouver passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27th at the age of 93 years. Madeleine is survived by her daughters Karen and Gail (Michael) Murphy, grandsons Matthew, Jason and Kieran, and her sister Genevieve (David) Seibel of Stettler, Alberta as well as her nieces and nephews.

Madeleine was born in Vanguard, Saskatchewan on June 24, 1930 and her early years were spent on the family farm and attending the local one-room school.  After completing high school, Madeleine attended the Moose Jaw Normal School where she obtained her teaching certificate.  Madeleine met her husband Erwin in the summer of 1951 while attending classes at the University of Saskatchewan and they were married the following year.  They moved to Alberta when they were hired to teach in the County of Vulcan.   Madeleine and Erwin spent 40 enjoyable years in Edmonton raising their family and moved to Vancouver in 2001 to be closer to their grandchildren.

Madeleine was devoted to her family and enjoyed making wonderful meals for everyone to enjoy.  She was an excellent seamstress, quilter and crafter.   In addition, she loved to travel and was fortunate to visit many places she could only dream of as a young girl.

A Memorial Service celebrating Madeleine’s life followed by Interment at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in Edmonton will be held at a date yet to be determined.   In lieu of flowers, donations in Madeleine’s memory may be made to First Book Canada (firstbookcanada.org).
