Leonard Schmidke Obituary

Leonard Schmidke went to be with his Lord on December 8, 2021 in his 90th year.

Len was born on October 24th, 1931 in Irkutsk, Russia to Teofile and Paul Schmidke. Len and his mom immigrated to Germany when he was 14 years old.

In 1949, they immigrated to Canada and settled in New-Serapta, Alberta.   In 1951, Len came to Chilliwack, B.C where he worked in a logging camp in Harrison until 1955.

He then moved to Vancouver to begin his career in boat building until he retired at 65 years old.

In 1956, June 30th, he married Margaret.  They began attending Bethany Baptist Church in Vancouver and Len was baptized in June of 1958.

Len never got to know his father, the Russians took him away, and he was never seen again. Len was very small, his mom had 7 children, but they all died as children, except for one who died in the war.

Len and Margaret were blessed with 3 children, Harvey, Gordon and Elaine.  They have eight grandchildren and five great

grandchildren. His grandchildren and great grandkids were the love of his life. Len loved his workshop and so did all the grandkids.

Len loved to build things, his hands were his greatest tools, and this was evident on the luxury boats that he built.

He leaves behind the true love of his life, Margaret.
