Laureno Reyes Obituary

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Larry Reyes, who passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, at Burnaby General Hospital at the age of 74, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 4, 1951, in Pasig, Philippines, Larry lived a life defined by strength, sacrifice, compassion, and unconditional love.

Larry was the beloved son of Benito Reyes and Evarista Bartulabac. He was predeceased by his half-siblings Domeng, Luciano, Merang, Susana, Narsing, Marcelo, and Fred.

In 1977, Larry immigrated to Victoria, British Columbia, sponsored by his sister Connie, in hopes of building a better future for his family. One month later, his beloved wife Nora joined him, and together they worked tirelessly to establish a life in Canada. Over the years, Larry and Nora lovingly sponsored many family members, always placing family at the center of their lives.

Larry held many roles throughout his life, including printing assistant, technician, pizza cook, dishwasher, and sous-chef at Laurel Point Inn. He eventually found his calling in caregiving and devoted 22 years as a nurse at the Lodge at Broadmead, where he cared for others with kindness and quiet dedication.

Above all else, Larry was a devoted husband, father, and proud grandfather — “Lolo” — to Ethan and Noah, who brought him immense joy. After retiring early, he dedicated much of his time to caring for and guiding his grandchildren, creating countless cherished memories with them.

Larry is survived by his loving wife Nora Reyes; his children Aureleo Reyes and Judith Metcalfe; son-in-law Keith Metcalfe; daughter-in-law Christy Reyes; his cherished grandchildren Ethan and Noah Metcalfe; his siblings Connie Hunt and Nestor Reyes; and many relatives and friends whose lives were touched by his warmth and generosity.

Larry’s strength was especially evident in 2018, when he overcame major heart surgery with remarkable resilience. In honour of his enduring spirit, the family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Canadian Red Cross.

A funeral service will be held on May 21, 2026. Mass will take place at Holy Cross Parish at 12:00 p.m., followed by burial at Pacific Heritage Cemetery and a reception afterward.

Larry will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his humility, perseverance, kindness, and unwavering love for his family.

Lolo, you will forever be loved and remembered.
