Karen Leah Plaited Hair of the Blood & Peigan Tribes passed away peacefully at the St. Paul’s hospital in Vancouver, BC on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at the age of 67 years.
Karen, who preferred to go by Leah, was born on July 2, 1957 to Francis (Thomas) Kuzmicz (of the Peigan Tribe in Brocket, AB) and Jim (James) Plaited Hair (of the Blood Tribe in Standoff, AB). Leah lived in Lethbridge, AB for many years before relocating to the west coast and lived in Chilliwack, BC as well as Vancouver, BC up until her passing.
Leah is survived by her three children, Chasity (Melbourne) McCollin, Tyson Lane and Stephanie (Maciej) Lane; 3 grandchildren, Tye Medicine Crane, Deshia, and Xavier; four great grandchildren, Xaiden, Zavier, Saryn, sister Thelma Pelletier, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leah was predeceased by her husband Steve Lane, sisters Christine Spearchief, Stella Morin (Wells) and Silvia Yellow Old Woman; brothers Ralph Plaited Hair, Gary Kuzmicz, Woodrow Wells.
Celebration of Karen's Life to take place at a later date.
