Isobel Karst Obituary

Isobel May Karst was born July 19, 1927 in St. Walburg, Saskatchewan into a farming family, with 4 sisters and one brother. Isobel’s father passed away at an early age, leaving his wife Emma to raise 5 young children on the farm. A good work ethic and cooperation were instilled within the children from the beginning, and the little family endured the great depression. Isobel attended Deer Valley School, and went on to study bookkeeping at Miller Business College. On November 17th, 1948 she married George Karst, and moved to Hope, where they were attracted to the mild climate, and the beauty of the costal environment. In 1952 a son Dale was born. Isobel and George would continue to live in Hope for 65 years. Isobel worked for several organizations including the Village of Hope, and the office of the school superintendent. She enjoyed meeting new people, and the challenge of working in a team environment. For a number of years she worked as a travel agent in Hope and enjoyed the many travel opportunities it provided. She was active in the Hope Curling Club, Hope Golf Course and several ladies’ bridge clubs. Isobel became a long standing member of the Anglican Church, and was a member of the Altar Guild for over 50 years. Isobel was a dedicated supporter of her family, and thoroughly enjoyed time spent with her 2 grandsons, attending hockey games, lacrosse games and occasional camping trips. She was a wonderful cook, and we have many fond memories of summer dinners as a family on the back sundeck. She will be remembered and greatly missed by her family and her many wonderful friends. A Memorial Service was held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 4, 2014 at CHRIST CHURCH, Hope, British Columbia, with Reverend Gail Newell, officiating. Interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery, Hope.
