Hugh (Dusty) Rhodes graduated from West Van High School in 1940. In 1942 he joined the R.C.A.F. serving as a pilot in Bomber Command until the end of hostilities. Following the war he attended U.B.C. graduating in Civil Engineering in 1950.
In 1953 he persuaded long-time friend Loise White to marry him and together they raised three children, living mostly in the Kerrisdale area. He was predeceased by Loise in April 2019.
Dusty’s working life was spent mostly in the reinforcing steel industry and he formed Rhodes-Vaughan Steel in 1962.
He enjoyed sailing and golf and particularly time with his family. He was a long-time member of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club and a life member of Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club.
He is survived by his sister Ursula Badre, children Alison, Janet, and Brian (Susan), and grandchildren Max (Katie), Addie, Avery, and Charlotte, all of whom loved Dusty very much.
