Harriet Ingram Obituary

Harriet Joan Ingram (nee Chambers) July 6 1926 – September 26, 2015

A life well lived! Harriet Joan Ingram passed away peacefully in her 90th year at Crofton Manor in Vancouver, her home since 2012. Her battle with dementia had intensified over the past year and her passing has released her from that torment. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jim, and her parents, Frederick and Elizabeth Chambers.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Roslyn (Les) of Regina, Alan (Nancy) of Grande Prairie and Carolyn (Matt) of Caledon; her grandchildren Jason Cooke, Catherine McLean, Alex Ingram, Rachel Ingram, Madelaine Humeniuk, Bridget Humeniuk and Emma Humeniuk and her two great grandsons Hunter and Brodie McLean.

Joan is survived by her brothers Ted (Joanne) and Harry (Bev) in Canada and her sister Lola and brother Brent (Pat) in Northern Ireland.

Joan was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and grew up in close-by Bangor. After a short career in Northern Ireland, she set sail for North America, landing in New York in April, 1953, then making her way to Toronto. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Jim Ingram, and they married in January, 1955. They started out in Hornby, Ontario but soon settled in Orillia where they developed many life-long friendships. In 1971, the family moved to London, Ontario where Joan and Jim resided until Jim’s passing and Joan’s courageous late life move to British Columbia. Jim and Joan were able to celebrate 50 years of marriage with a gala evening with family and friends in January 2005.

At Joan’s request, there will be a graveside service held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 17th at the Churchville Cemetery in Brampton, Ontario, where Joan will be laid to rest beside her dear husband, Jim. There will be a wake in celebration of Joan’s life following the service.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Society of Canada in Joan’s name.

The family would like to acknowledge the fabulous care and attention paid to Joan (Harriet) by the staff of Crofton Manor over the past three years. Special thanks to Dr. Duncan Etches for the thoughtful and supportive care provided to Joan (Harriet) through her struggles with dementia.

An Irish Blessing

May the road rise to meet you

May the wind be always at your back

May the sunshine warm upon your face

May the rains fall upon your fields

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the hollow of His hand
