Galdino Berti

Mr. Galdino Berti of Hope, passed away at the Fraser Lodge on March 9, 2023 at the age of 90 years.

Born on August 13, 1932 in Valmozzola, Italy (town of Pieve), Galdino was the third eldest of a family of 6 boys and 4 girls all of which are believed to have predeceased him.

He immigrated to Canada in February of 1959. He worked with his older brother Frank in the construction industry for a short time before joining C.N. Rail in August of 1959. While he worked with C.N. Rail, he worked in various jobs on section line crews from Edmonton to Prince Rupert and Jasper to Vancouver; eventually settling in Boston Bar as a patrolman foreman working from Kamloops to Hope.

With his retirement in 1997, Galdino was an ardent gardener with a green thumb for growing vegetables and fruit trees. He supplied many neighbours, friends, and coworkers with his produce.

A very pious, compassionate, and generous man; Galdino devoted himself to prayer, the holy rosary, and love for the blessed virgin Mary. His generosity was responsible for the sponsoring of 32 Priests to the Priesthood and 4 Nuns to the Religious life, primarily in the areas of South America and India. He also adopted several children and their families and gave generously to orphanages in Africa, India, and South America while at the same time firmly supporting his local Catholic Parish and various projects of the Archdiocese of Vancouver.

Galdino is survived by many friends, numerous nieces, nephews, and their families

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 17th, 2023 at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church, 671 Water Avenue, Hope, BC with Father Dennis Flores, celebrant.
