Ellen Melloy Obituary

MELLOY, ELLEN ELIZABETH (Smith) It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Ellen Elizabeth Melloy, the afternoon of September 18th, at home with her beloved husband Stan and family by her side.

If we could all live a life as filled with love as Ellen's, we would be blessed, and we were. She was kind, warm, caring, welcoming and so beautiful, always a lady. She has the love and devotion of her husband, Stan who cherished her everyday of their 66 year marriage. She was his sunshine and he adored her as did her two children David (Brenda) and Joanne (Ralph) and her five grandchildren Kelly (JP Berger) and Will Melloy and Scott, Marc and Kate Webster. Nana was the best.

The youngest of 7 children, Ellen was born in Grand Bank, Newfoundland, January 14th, 1926. She was predeceased by her parents Amelia and Alec Smith, and her siblings, Dorothy, Leslie, Edith, Freda, John and Margaret. Ellen fell in love with a charming RAF Officer in 1946. Stan left Newfoundland to pursue an education at University of Toronto and Ellen soon followed obtaining a transfer with the Bank of Nova Scotia. They were married September 11th, 1948 and raised their family in Town of Mount Royal, Montreal. A wonderful life they have shared living coast to coast across Canada. Ellen enjoyed music, travel and the company of friends. She was an avid bridge player and keen golfer, playing at Royal Montreal, Lambton Golf and Country Club in Toronto and Shaughnessy Golf Club in Vancouver as well as TPC Prestancia in Sarasota and Desert Island, Rancho Mirage. A challenging competitor, the most elegant and charming of ladies, a beautiful mother, devoted Nana and loving wife, Ellen's warm smile and gracious presence will be deeply missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched.

Special thanks to Ana Alayan and Dr. Stefan Sereacki for their compassion and support. A Celebration of Life will be held at Shaughnessy Golf Club Sunday October 5th 3:30-5:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ellen’s memory may be made to the Kate Booth Transition House, Box 38048, King Edward Mall, Vancouver, BC V5Z 4L9. Send condolences at www.mbfunerals.com.
