Art pegged out while relaxing in his recliner, watching a movie with his dog at his side. He will be missed by his children Jay (Sandi Munro), Keith, and Sandra (Luis DeMelo), his grandchildren Zoë (Justin Pruss), Rowan, Keon, and Santana, his cousins, nieces, and nephews, a large circle of golf, bowling, fishing, and coffee buddies, and his dog Nicky. His wife Eva, his companion for over 50 years, passed away in 2011. His parents and two brothers (Herbie and Ray) also predeceased him. He is survived by his sister Hilda.
Art arrived in Canada from Poland after WWII. He became what he called a tin termite, doing sheet metal and furnace installations his whole working life. Bowling, golf, and fishing were his favourite pastimes but he must have loved fishing most because his funeral request was to send his ashes down the Fraser. He was a quiet man who never sought attention. He was kind, solid, funny, generous, and always ready to help someone in need. He could build houses, fix things, and cook a decent meal. He liked dogs, a good cocktail, old junk because you never know when it might come in handy, and starting a new project. While his design for a sheet metal pheasant trap baited with a mixture of vodka and grain was not successful, you had to love him for trying.
There will be an informal gathering to remember Art at the Scottsdale Lanes (12033 84 Avenue, Surrey) on Saturday November 28 at 3:00 p.m.
